“Materials Engineering to Realize Innovative Technologies for Sustainability (MERITS) Fellow Development Program”

Abstract

The Department of Education has awarded a grant through the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program to the University of Notre Dame Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering to establish the Materials Engineering to Realize Innovative Technologies for Sustainability (MERITS) Fellow Training Program. The goals of the MERITS program include the support, retention, and training of graduate students in pursuit of the PhD and future careers in research and teaching. The program structure will be discussed. 

Biography

Jennifer Schaefer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. She joined the University in 2015 after serving as an NRC postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University in 2014. The Schaefer research group studies ion transport and interfacial reactions with relevance to energy storage devices. The primary focus is liquid and polymer electrolytes to advance high energy density rechargeable batteries.
