Abstract

ND Energy has a long history of enabling sustainable energy research and education at the University of Notre Dame. Through its programs and services, ND Energy engages students, faculty, staff, and the broader community in efforts to understand and create a clean and sustainable energy future for all. Sigmon will discuss current and aspirational strategic initiatives in support of Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, and lay the groundwork for a day of learning and engaging in discussions surrounding important research advancements in energy. 

Biography

Ginger E. Sigmon joined the Center for Sustainable Energy at Notre Dame (ND Energy) in July 2014 as the managing director. She has been a member of the Notre Dame family since 2009 as the former managing director of the Materials Science of Actinides, Energy Frontier Research Center from 2009-2016. She also currently serves as the managing director of the NNSA Actinide Center of Excellence (ACE) and manager of the Actinide Research Laboratories (CEEES). Under the direction of Peter C. Burns at the University of Notre Dame, Sigmon received a Ph.D. in actinide materials (2010). Selected works include uranyl peroxide nanoclusters and neptunium materials. She received her bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and geology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC (2005).
