“Benefits of Measurement, Reporting, and Verification to Achieve Carbon Neutrality and Aid in Policy Development”

Abstract

Sound GHG data and public reporting on climate action enable organizations and governments to better design, implement and track their long term climate strategies. The Climate Registry (TCR) is a non-profit organization that empowers organizations to do more in the fight against climate change by providing services and tools that help them accurately measure, report, verify, and reduce their emissions. TCR drives climate action and ambition on the road to net zero by supporting transparency, showcasing leadership, and building cross-sector partnerships. We are creating a Net-Zero Portal to ratchet up global action on climate change, and are engaging experts across sectors in an open and transparent consultation process to develop it. The Net-Zero Portal will provide essential information on carbon neutrality pledges and pathways, so that organizations and jurisdictions can build capacity and the public can better understand their claims. This information exchange and accountability will accelerate public and private action to achieve net zero GHG emissions.

Biography

The Climate Registry (TCR) is a non-profit organization that empowers North American organizations to do more in the fight against climate change by providing services and tools that help them reduce their emissions. TCR drives climate action and ambition on the road to net zero by supporting transparency, showcasing leadership, and building strategic partnerships with and between national and international entities. Chelsea Hasenauer leads TCR’s strategy and innovation team, which identifies, develops, and implements new GHG- and Water-related Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) initiatives and recognition programs. She authors and maintains MRV protocols, and leads the development of new policy, guidance, and tools to support organizations in managing their emissions. Prior to joining TCR, Ms. Hasenauer worked in policy research, examining policies in both California and Europe that successfully enable climate action. Her background also includes ecological research on climate change adaptation at the University of California, San Diego.
