Biography

Carol Mullaney is the senior director for the Office of Sustainability, assuming leadership responsibility in 2017, overseeing the strategic and managerial direction for the office. Working with the Office of Sustainability staff and interns, she focuses on partnerships with campus groups and individuals to advance the university's Comprehensive Sustainability Strategy.

Carol joined Notre Dame in 2010 as a founding member of the Continuous Improvement Office, focused on designing, leading, and fostering a culture that embraces continuous improvement and positive change to support Notre Dame’s mission.  Under her leadership of that office beginning in 2011, many campus departments have achieved strategic targets, recaptured valuable time and delivered positive financial impact through engagement in the continuous improvement process. In addition, she is a concurrent instructor in the Mendoza College of Business, teaching a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course in the MBA program.  Carol is also an instructor for the Moreau First-Year Experience course, a one-credit seminar for all first-year undergraduate students launched in the fall 2015 semester.

Carol was recognized as a “Leader of Change” in Higher Education in 2016 by NCCI, the Network for Change and Continuous Innovation.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame in 2010, Carol spent ten years directing process improvement programs and leading strategic/executive level transformation projects for the Fortune 500 Company, Pitney Bowes.  

Carol received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 1982 and also received an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.  She served on the Notre Dame Alumni Board from July 2001 to July 2004, the initial Steering committee for ND Women Connect, and currently, serves as Vice President/President-Elect for Higher Education's Network for Change and Continuous Innovation (NCCI).
