2022 Energy Week 1200

Notre Dame students, faculty and staff were invited to register for the following tours.

Crossroads Solar Facility

Crossroads Solar, South Bend, IN
Wednesday, September 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Join former Notre Dame professor Pat Regan, now co-founder and CEO of Crossroads Solar, a solar panel manufacturing facility in South Bend, for a tour and presentation about the manufacturing process of solar panels and his philosophy on producing solar modules while employing former felons.

This event is about 1 hour and 20 minutes long with a 10-minute drive each way and 1-hour tour/presentation.

Mc 7

Power Plant, Notre Dame Campus
Wednesday, September 14, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Thursday, September 15, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Generating about half of Notre Dame’s electrical energy, the power plant on the north side of campus has evolved since it was first built at its current site in 1932. It only produced steam for heat in the early days, but in the 1950's, Notre Dame was the first university to generate electricity. Meet the engineers and tour the plant to see how Notre Dame is working hard to become more energy efficient. Participants should plan to arrive a few minutes early to complete a waiver form. Participants must also wear closed-toe shoes and bring their Notre Dame ID.

Turbo Tour

Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory, South Bend, IN
Thursday, September 22, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Located in a 25,000 square foot facility in downtown South Bend’s Ignition Park, the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory partners with industry and government in the development of advanced technologies required for conventional and high Mach air-breathing propulsion, energy generation, advanced thermal management, and energy storage solutions.

This event is about 1 hour and 20 minutes long with a 10-minute drive each way and 1-hour tour/presentation.
