Summer Slatt Fellowship Program

The Summer Vincent P. Slatt Fellowship Program is designed for incoming juniors and seniors from Notre Dame and visiting students from minority-serving institutions interested in conducting sustainable energy research in collaboration with faculty affiliates.

The summer program is a 10-week, full-time research opportunity starting in mid-May through July 2027. Students selected will demonstrate high academic achievement and an expressed interest in addressing a broad range of energy challenges through research and discovery with the desire to achieve impactful outcomes.

Summer Application Dates

Applications for the 2027 Summer Vincent P. Slatt Fellowship Program will be accepted from February 1-28, 2027. Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program by the end of March 2027.

Award Amount

  • Summer awards are up to $8,500 per student, which is paid to the student in two equal payments at the beginning and end of the program. Awards must be used to support the student’s stipend and to pay for on-campus housing, meals, and travel as needed.
  • Slatt scholars are also eligible to receive a one-time travel award of up to $1,000 to present their research at a national conference. Travel requests may be submitted up to 6 months following the award-year with proof of the student's abstract acceptance.

Award Criteria

Student applications will be rated and selected based on the following criteria:

Student’s Research Interests and Experiences

  • Clearly states his/her energy-related research interests and previous experiences
  • Clearly understands the importance of energy-related research and its impact on society
  • Clearly explains his/her capabilities to conduct energy-related research

Student's Career Objectives and Academic Achievements

  • Clearly states his/her career path and future aspirations
  • Exemplifies academic excellence based on GPA, scholarly achievements, extracurricular activities, and other successes indicated in his/her CV

Submission Deadline

The deadline to apply for the Summer Vincent P. Slatt Fellowship Program is February 28, 2027. The application links will be posted when they become available.
