The ECS-ND Student Chapter receives Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year Award by ECS

Ecs Nd Chapter

The Electrochemical Society (ECS) Notre Dame Student Chapter was named Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year at the 244th ECS Meeting on October 8-12, 2023 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Notre Dame student chapter will receive a recognition plaque, a monetary award of $1,000, and recognition in The Electrochemical Society Interface or other electronic communications.

The ECS Outstanding Student Chapter Award (formerly The Gwendolyn B. Wood Section Excellence Award) was established in 2012 to recognize distinguished student chapters that demonstrate active participation in The Electrochemical Society’s technical activities, establish community and outreach activities in the areas of electrochemical and solid state science and engineering education, and create and maintain a robust membership base.

The ECS-ND Student Chapter thrives to enrich the Notre Dame electrochemical community by spreading its collective knowledge, promoting coordination and networking amongst its constituents, and serving as a resource for professional development for successful careers in electrochemical science. The chapter is run by graduate students across multiple departments to promote a diverse research spectrum ranging from macroscopic energy solutions to nanoscopic sensors. The chapter regularly hosts seminars with prolific speaker and social events to stimulate exchange among its members.

The current Board Officers leading chapter efforts are:

  • Julius Reitemeier, President, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Bohn Research Group)
  • Bo-An Chen, Vice President, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Kamat Research Group)
  • Lingyu Yang, Secretary, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (Schaefer Research Group)
  • Jishnu Chakkamalayath, Treasurer, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Kamat Research Group)
About The Electrochemical Society

The ECS mission is to advance theory and practice at the forefront of electrochemical and solid state science and technology, and allied subjects. To encourage research, discussion, critical assessment, and dissemination of knowledge in these fields, The Society holds meetings, publishes scientific papers, fosters training and education of scientists and engineers, and cooperates with other organizations to promote science and technology in the public interest. The ECS biannual meeting brings together the most active researchers in academia, government, and industry—professionals and students—to engage, discuss, and innovate in the areas of electrochemistry and solid state science and related technologies.
