Notre Dame Chapter Selected as 2023 ECS Outstanding Student Chapter

Ecs Chapter 2023

The Notre Dame Student Chapter of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) has been selected to receive the 2023 ECS Outstanding Student Chapter Award. The chapter will be awarded a recognition plaque, one thousand dollars, and recognition in various ECS publications.

This award was established in 2012 “to recognize distinguished student chapters that demonstrate active participation in The Electrochemical Society’s technical activities, establish community and outreach activities in areas of electrochemical and solid-state science and engineering education, and create and maintain a robust membership base.”

Chapter President, Gabor Szabo, said “the award is a great achievement for all of us, and the credit goes to everyone involved with the chapter. Of course, while our goal is to maintain and improve community among students interested in electrochemistry and not to win awards, receiving the award is a pleasant surprise and a reason to celebrate.”

The ND chapter was founded in 2020 and focuses on hosting on-line and in-person seminars given by well-known electrochemical scientists and engineers from across the globe. The chapter currently has approximately 55 members, including students who do active research in electrochemistry as well as students whose research is in different areas. In addition to seminars, the chapter hosts social events each semester to build community and provide networking opportunities.
