“Acts of Gods or Governments?: Disasters and Post-disaster Reconstruction as an Issue of Governance in Urban Nepal”-Lecture by Shana Scogin, Political Science PhD candidate

Sag Scogin Web 1200 X 675

Whose responsibility is it to prepare for and rebuild after a ‘natural’ disaster? And who do urban residents trust most to protect and rebuild their community? Using novel data, Scogin theorizes that Nepali urban residents believe post-disaster preparation and reconstruction to be a collective good, the provision of which is the responsibility of the state.

Shana Scogin is a PhD Candidate in Comparative Politics in the Department of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. Scogin works primarily in local governance and environmental politics.

The lecture is sponsored by the Liu Institute's South Asia Group.  Registration is required for participants.
