Exploration for All: The Infinite to Spaceship Earth – An Edison Lecture at Notre Dame by Dava Newman ‘86 (ND) Ph.D. ‘92 (MIT)

Newman Hero

Please join the College of Engineering for this capstone event celebrating 150 Years of Engineering at Notre Dame.

This event will be moderated by Patricia J. Culligan, Dean of the College of Engineering, with an introduction by Notre Dame Provost John T. McGreevy, and followed by a reception with light refreshments.

Dava Newman is the Apollo Program Professor of Astronautics and Director of the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Her research in multidisciplinary aerospace biomedical engineering investigates human performance across the spectrum of gravity, including space suits, life support and astronaut performance.

Newman has been the principal investigator on 4 spaceflight missions on the Shuttle, MIR, and ISS. Known for her second skin BioSuit™ planetary spacesuit, her inventions are now being applied to “soft suits/exoskeletons” to enhance locomotion on Earth. Her latest research includes Earth Speaks™ – an open-source platform of curated space data that applies AI, natural language and supercomputer visualizations to help accelerate actions to help regenerate Earth’s oceans, land and climate.

She earned her B.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame and her Ph.D. in aerospace biomedical engineering and Master of Science degrees in aerospace engineering and technology and policy from MIT.

This is an un-ticketed event, and all are welcome. For those who are unable to attend, this presentation will be livestreamed from this page.
