Register Today: DOE’s Virtual Industrial Heat Shot Summit

Earthheat

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will hold the Industrial Heat Shot™ Summit on October 23, 2023, from 11:00am – 5:00pm ET. This virtual event will gather stakeholders across government, industry, and academia to engage on the objectives, progress, priorities, and future plans for the DOE Industrial Heat Shot™. The Industrial Heat Shot™ aims to develop cost-competitive industrial heat decarbonization technologies with at least 85% lower greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.

Part of the Energy Earthshots Initiative™ portfolio, the Industrial Heat Shot™ calls for innovation and shared learnings across the full research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) spectrum to drastically reduce emissions from the energy-intensive process of industrial heating. Achieving the ambitious Industrial Heat Shot™ goal would put the American industrial sector on course to reduce its carbon-equivalent emissions by 575 million metric tons by 2050, which is roughly equal to the emissions generated by all passenger cars on the road in 2020.

Please join us for the Industrial Heat Shot™ Summit as we foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration in the journey to decarbonize heat for U.S. industry.

Register here.

Here’s an overview of the Summit:

Part 1: Tackling the Largest Source of Industrial Emissions

11:00 a.m.–1:15 p.m.

After a welcome from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Leadership, we’ll provide an overview of the Industrial Heat Shot™ and discuss how DOE is accelerating the innovation pipeline for technologies to decarbonize heat generation and other industrial processes. The session will conclude with a panel discussion on challenges and opportunities in the decarbonization of industrial heat, featuring experts from industry, academia, and national labs.

Part 2: Lifting Up American Communities

1:15–2:35 p.m.

The Summit continues with a reflection on how burning fossil fuels to generate heat has impacted industrial communities, how to ensure these communities benefit from decarbonization of industry, and how to equip America’s industrial workforce with the skills to work with emerging clean heat technologies.

Part 3: Driving Fearless Innovation

2:35–5:00 p.m.

In the final stretch of the Summit, we’ll dive into the technologies needed to decarbonize industrial heat and see some of DOE’s recent and upcoming investments in three key pathways: generating heat from clean electricity, integrating clean heat from alternative sources, and innovating low- or no-heat process technologies.
