Earth Week: Land Acknowledgment & Artist Talk

Earth Week 2023

Please join us in the Geddes Coffee House to kick off Earth Week with an indigenous land acknowledgment from the Office of Sustainability and an artist's talk by featured Potawatomi member, John Fox. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Native Americans are recognized as one of the original sustainability teachers and practitioners. We wish to honor this knowledge and will share resources for the campus community to better engage with native groups on and off campus, and learn more about indigenous scholarship and sustainability work.

About the artist:

John Fox resides in Saugatuck, Michigan. His paintings focus on relationships between traditional Anishinabé culture and current mainstream trends that blend but do not conflict. The Pokagon Band has endured thanks in part to its Seven Grandfather teachings: the values of Wisdom, Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Humility, and Family. John has adapted these deeply-rooted ideals into his contemporary circumstances and artistic pathway. They have guided, balanced, and given him a harmonious appreciation of the world around him.

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Social Concerns
