Since more than a century, the Catholic Church points to the connection between natural degregation and poverty. Resources like clean water and fresh air are a common good provided by the Creator to all creation. More than ever, those who have no access to these resources are the poor. In his recent encyclical, His Holiness Pope Francis points out how also "climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all." He goes on to say: 

"Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day. Its worst impact will probably be felt by developing countries in coming decades." Laudato Si' #25

He clearly states that these ecological problems result in a decline of quality of human life and "are closely linked to a throwaway culture." 

"The time to find global solutions is running out. We can find appropriate solutions only if we act together and in agreement. There is therefore a clear, definitive and urgent ethical imperative to act."     Pope Francis
