2022 Highlights
The 5th Annual ND Energy Research Symposium was held March 31, 2022 in support of energy-related research and scholarship and the 2021-22 Notre Dame Forum on Care for our Common Home: Just Transition to a Sustainable Future. Nearly 60 members of the Notre Dame community spent the day learning about current challenges and opportunities in energy.
During the symposium, faculty discussed current research projects and engaged participants in conversations to stimulate action towards transitioning to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. The agenda included topics on complex transfer reactions, integrated energy systems, water treatment technologies, advanced materials, innovation ecosystems, waste heat recovery optimization, and materials engineering for sustainability. The poster session provided a broad range of other research topics presented by postdoctoral scholars and graduate students during the afternoon networking reception. ND Energy presented awards to the top three poster presenters. Winners were Savannah Benjamin (Burns lab), Zoe Emory (Burns lab), and Hanna Hlushko (LaVerne lab).
Success of the symposium is largely due to having engaged participants and faculty experts who contributed to discussions on important energy topics. Special thanks to our invited speakers Emily Tsui, Alexander Dowling, Kyle Doudrick, Yamil Colón, James Thompson, Tengfei Luo, Jennifer Schaefer, all poster presenters, McKenna Hall staff for ensuring a comfortable venue, and Angie Hubert, Videography and Photography Program Manager at Notre Dame Research, for capturing the day perfectly in presentation recordings. ND Energy has hosted an annual research symposium since 2018, bringing together researchers, scholars, students, and sustainability professionals from academia, industry, and government to discuss some of the greatest challenges and opportunities in sustainable energy research and development facing the world today.
