External Slatt Application
Prof. Yamil Colon (c) with Norbert Ramos (l) and Erick Mendez (r), students from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
The Vincent P. Slatt Fellowship for Undergraduate Research in Energy Systems and Processes provides summer research opportunities for undergraduate students from other universities to conduct energy-related research with ND Energy affiliated faculty at the University of Notre Dame. Students participate in cutting-edge research programs, as well as professional development and networking events, while broadening their understanding of major challenges and opportunities in energy production, distribution and use.
The Slatt summer research experience is typically a 10-week, on-campus, program starting late May through July. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and University guidelines, the current plan is for students to conduct research remotely with virtual access to laboratory training and personnel. More information will be available in late spring. Until then, students are encouraged to apply and if selected, may choose to postpone their final decision to participate in the program until more information is known.
Award Amount and Eligibility
Up to three (3) fellowships of $5,000 each will be awarded to incoming juniors and seniors. Each award will be paid to the student as a stipend and may be used to assist with travel, housing, meals, and other related expenses as deemed necessary to perform the research project. Due to the limited number of awards and current relationships, student applicants from Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, and Xavier University of Louisiana will be given priority over applicants from other institutions.
