Bonus episode of podcast highlights bold proposal for U.S.-Mexico border

With a Side of Knowledge is a podcast produced by the Office of the Provost at the University of Notre Dame. It brings listeners informal interviews with fascinating scholars and professionals from both Notre Dame and elsewhere that take place over brunch.

Now in the midst of its second season, the show released a special bonus episode on Sunday, April 7, titled “A Bold Proposal for the U.S.-Mexico Border” and featuring Luciano Castillo, Kenninger Professor of Renewable Energy and Power Systems at Purdue University.

Normally, host Ted Fox speaks with the show’s guests on the Notre Dame campus. This time, however, he made the two-hour drive to Purdue to talk with Castillo, who is leading a consortium of some 30 scientists, researchers, and engineers—including two from Notre Dame—that has proposed an extensive energy- and water-producing industrial corridor along the United States-Mexico border.

With a Side of Knowledge episodes are typically published every other Thursday, and the bonus episode with Castillo closely followed the April 4 episode with Rachel Kyte, CEO of Sustainable Energy for All. Both Kyte and Castillo were invited speakers at the second annual ND Energy research symposium held at Notre Dame in March.
