Prof. McLachlan has received a 2018 Equipment Restoration and Renewal grant for upgrades to the Hank Wing Greenhouse and more.
Notre Dame Research has provided six researchers or research groups from three Colleges and Schools with awards from the Equipment and Restoration Renewal (ERR) grant program for 2018. The ERR grant program was created to assist in the restoration, replacement, and renewal of the facilities needed for faculty research at the University of Notre Dame.
“All of the Notre Dame Research internal grant programs are designed to support research, scholarship, and creative endeavor at the University,” said Richard E. Billo, associate vice president for research and professor of computer science and engineering. “The ERR grant program stands apart as a support mechanism for core facilities and other campus resources that our researchers need to be successful in their programs.”
The 2018 grant recipients are:
Daniel Bardayan, professor of physics, for restoration of equipment in the Nuclear Science Laboratory.
Justin R. Crepp, Freimann Assistant Professor of Physics and director of the Engineering and Design Core Facility, and David Futa, physics machine shop manager, for machinery replacement and upgrades in the physics machine shop.
William Donaruma, teaching professor in filmmaking and director of the Center for Creative Computing; Richard Gray, associate professor of photography and department chair of art, art history, and design, and Ian Kuijt, professor of anthropology, for specialized digital video equipment for advanced visual research in anthropology, film, television, and photography.
Jason McLachlan, associate professor of biological sciences, for upgrades to the Hank Wing Greenhouse and environmental control chambers.
Sergei Rouvimov, research associate professor of electrical engineering and program director of transmission electron microscopy at the Notre Dame Integrated Imaging Facility, for renovation of analytical capability (EDS) in the FEI Titan transmission electron microscope to allow for faster elemental mapping of advanced materials and novel devices at a nanometer scale.
Na Wei, assistant professor of civil & environmental engineering & earth sciences, for expansion of campus trace gas detection and identification capabilities.
