Faculty Luncheon: Electrical Grid Modernization in Presence of Distributed Resources

Mar 19 Faculty 1

ND Energy Faculty Luncheon Seminars are held monthly with interested faculty to facilitate cross-disciplinary research collaborations and to enable development of proposal ideas for upcoming funding opportunities. All interested faculty from diverse fields are invited to attend.

The discussion topic for this luncheon will be centered around the issues related to “Electrical Grid Modernization in Presence of Distributed Resources”. We will have presentations by Prof. Joshua Cameron, on a Microgrid project that the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory is initiating with local utility (AEP/I&M), by Prof. Aaron Striegel on Cyber Physical Security aspects of Microgrids, and by Paul Kempf on what Notre Dame has done to modernize our grid connected ‘Microgrid’ and can potentially serve as a ‘Test-bed’.

This 40 minute session will be followed by a discussion focused on (1) Cross disciplinary Research Needs, (2) Potential avenues for external and internal collaborations, (3) Funding sources to target, and if everyone is agreeable, (4) 'Follow-up actions' that we can track. Subhash L. Shinde will moderate the discussion part of this luncheon and with your engagement, we expect to have a very stimulating and inspiring exchange of ideas.
