Garrett Bruce Bio

Dr. Bruce Garrett, the Director of the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences and Biosciences (CSGB) Division of the Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) at the U.S. Department of Energy will provide a brief overview of BES/CSGB and its future directions. He will be accompanied by Dr. Gail McLean, Team Lead for the Photochemistry and Biochemistry Team in CSGB. All members of the Notre Dame research community are welcome to attend.

Dr. Garrett joined the Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) in November 2016 as Director of the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences Division. Dr. Garrett manages a broad portfolio of experimental, theoretical, and computational research to provide fundamental understanding of chemical transformations and energy flow in systems relevant to DOE missions. He brings to BES almost four decades of experience in a national laboratory and private research organizations. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. McLean is team lead for the Photochemistry and Biochemistry Team in the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences (CSGB) Division of the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy. She joined CSGB in November 2008. Dr. McLean received her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Georgia and her B.S. in Biology from St. Andrews College.
