Mishawaka High School Internship Program Student Poster Presentations

ND Energy is pleased to host the 3rd annual Mishawaka High School (MHS) Student Poster Session on Wednesday, May 23, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Atrium of Stinson-Remick Hall. This event is free and open to the public. 

Students participating in the ND Energy and Mishawaka High School Internship Program will discuss their research experiences during their poster presentations. Currently, there are five high school students participating in ND Energy affiliated labs on campus. The partnership between ND Energy and Mishawaka High School began in 2013 and focuses on engaging young scientists with Notre Dame graduate students to experience research and scientific methods first-hand.

The students presenting their research projects will be:

Paola Amezquita, Senior (Dr. Vlad Iluc Laboratory)
Poster Title: Pincer Ligands
Development of catalysis materials

Moira Ferrer, Senior (Dr. Svetlana Neretina Laboratory)
Poster Title: Galvanic Replacement of Silver with Gold
Exploring how to exchange silver particles for gold particles

Elizabeth McKesson, Junior (Dr. Amy Hixon Laboratory)
Poster Title: UO2 Aging Under Controlled Storage Conditions
Examining how mineral phases change when exposed to different levels of humidity.  

Joy Thompson, Junior (Dr. Peter Burns Laboratory)
Poster title: Analysis of Uranium Minerals Using Big Data Network Methods
Exploring mineral locations using the Big Data approach. 

Samuel Trowbridge, Senior (Dr. Ruilan Guo Laboratory)
Poster Title: Gas Separation with Polyamide Membranes
Development of new membranes for separating CO2

Faculty members who are interested in participating in the program for next school year are encouraged to attend the poster session.
