The CISTAR REU, held at Purdue University, is an 11-week summer research internship program for undergraduates majoring in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials engineering, ceramic engineering or science, environmental science, or economic analysis.

The CISTAR REU pays for the majority of student expenses—travel (up to $500), on-campus housing, and a $4,500 stipend. The REU focuses on the development of strong student-mentor relationships, as well as laboratory and research skills.

The program has projects in the following research areas:

  • Synthesis of Nanomaterials and Nanoscale Structures
  • Catalyst Characterization, Spectroscopy and Imaging
  • Materials Discovery and Development
  • Chemical Kinetics and Catalysis
  • Theory, Modeling and Electronic Structure Calculations

Eligible students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, currently enrolled in a college or university, and attending in the fall. Members of underrepresented minority groups, veterans, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Special consideration given to students currently attending institutions that do not offer Ph.D. programs.

Application materials include a transcript, letter of recommendation from one faculty member and a resume. Deadline to apply is February 23, 2018.
