Energy Expo

Prior to the home football game on Saturday, leading energy experts will speak on current energy topics beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Jordan Hall of Science (north entrance). At 12:00 (noon), adults and children of all ages will be invited to participate in energy related demonstrations and activities. Open to the general public and University students, faculty, staff and their guests. Co-sponsored by the College of Science.

    "Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry"
    Dr. John Warner will discuss green chemistry and how it is used to reduce or eliminate the use and/or generation of hazardous substances in the design phase of materials development. Dr. Warner is the co-founder, President, Chief Technology Officer, and Chairman of the Board of the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry

    "The Equinox House"
    Dr. Ty Newell will discuss this single family residence designed to have 100% of its annual energy requirements supplied by solar energy. He will also discuss the design, construction and cost for the Equinox Housein addition to several unique features and technologies incorporated into the house. Dr. Newell is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

    Education and Outreach
    Experiments, demonstrations, and a special program by Dr. Amy Cannon, co-founder and Executive Director of Beyond Benign, a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable science and specializes in curriculum development, outreach, education, and training.
