Kamat Named to Editorial Position With New ACS Journal

June 15, 2009

The American Chemical Society has named Prashant Kamat, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame, deputy editor of the forthcoming publication Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters. Addressing the most urgent research results across all areas of physical chemistry, the new journal will publish concise reports exclusively in an online format.

Launching in January 2010, the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters is responding to the demand for rapid dissemination of results that are of immediate interest to researchers in physical chemistry. As such, the reports will be of limited length, selected for urgency of publication and expedited through a streamlined editorial process.

The new journal will also offer an interdisciplinary scope to the broad field of physical chemistry.
“As innovative, leading research becomes more interdisciplinary, it is vital for researchers to access the latest results online,” Kamat said. “This journal will provide greater visibility and accessibility.”

Kamat has directed solar photochemistry research funded by the Department of Energy for more than two decades. His research has made significant contributions to the areas of photo-induced catalytic reactions using semiconductor and metal nanoparticles, nanostructures and nanocomposites, advanced materials such as inorganic-organic hybrid assemblies for utilizing renewable energy resources, and environmental remediation. He has shared his expertise as a member on many national panels on nanotechnology and energy conversion processes.

In addition to his role as professor of chemistry and biochemistry, Kamat is senior scientist at the Notre Dame Radiation Laboratory and concurrent professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Kamat serves as executive editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry A/B/C, a leading publication of the American Chemical Society. He is a member of the advisory board of the scientific journals Langmuir, Research on Chemical Intermediates, Interface, Electrochemical and Solid State Letters and International Journal of Photoenergy. He also has served on many national exploratory panels in the area of nanoscience, energy conversion and environmental remediation.
