Celebrating a decade since its inception in December 2005, the Center for Sustainable Energy at Notre Dame (ND Energy) is proud to have so many world-class faculty affiliated with the center and leading the way in new scientific advancements and discoveries that will have far-reaching impact on available energy sources and use, economic developments, and the wellbeing and health of our global and national environments.
As a University research center, ND Energy strives to grow and develop energy research towards sustainable and affordable energy solutions, support education and outreach for the Notre Dame and surrounding communities, and influence energy policy discussions at the national and global levels. ND Energy plays a pivotal role in developing new and improved energy technologies and systems and focuses on developing engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and social scientists to be leaders in their disciplines and literate in the systems of energy production and use. ND Energy is appreciative to have the support and engagement from the ND Energy faculty who make this all possible.
Here are a few of the ND Energy faculty and their research areas of expertise:
- Dr. Peter C. Burns, Henry Massman Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, Director of ND Energy, and Director of the Energy Frontier Research Center Materials Science of Actinides, nuclear energy research expert.
- Dr. Joan F. Brennecke, Keating-Crawford Chair in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, founding director of ND Energy, carbon capture research expert.
- Dr. Prashant V. Kamat, John A. Zahm Professor of Science, ND Energy Faculty Fellow, inaugural editor-in-chief of the new ACS Energy Letters, solar energy research expert.
- Dr. Edward Maginn, Dorini Family Professor of Energy Studies and Department Chair in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, advanced molecular level simulations research expert.
- Dr. William Schneider, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, ND Energy Faculty Fellow, computational environmental catalysis research expert.
ND Energy is also proud of several of its newer faculty who have already demonstrated excellence in energy research. They are:
