Science Alive!

Attend the 2018 Science Alive! event, when everything science comes alive at the St. Joseph County Public Library in downtown South Bend. Visit the ND Energy room and learn everything there is to know about energy ... where it comes from, how it is produced, and what you can do to conserve it. There will be activities on every floor!

Along with members of the Student Energy Board, participating ND Energy affiliated faculty members in this year's event include: Jennifer Schaefer, Jonathan Whitmer, David Go, William Schneider, Amy Hixon, Peter Burns, Kyle Doudrick, Svetlana Neretina, Abigail Mechtenberg.

Special Presentations

StormTeam 16 - 10:30 a.m. 
It’s amazing how meteorologists track the ever-changing weather conditions. Discover the way a weather forecast is created by using science and art with guests from StormTeam 16.

Silly Safaris - 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m.
He’s back! Amazon John of Silly Safaris returns with his animal pals to Science Alive. Meet an assortment of exotic animals as well as some furry new friends.

Science Central - 1:30 p.m. 
Sound has never been this exciting! Science Central will be here to delve deeper into the movement of sound!

SeaBeast Puppet Company - 3:00 p.m. 
Presenting “The History of Light!” This enchanting shadow puppet show takes us on a trip through time and space to explore the world's many sources of light!

These are the droids you're looking for. Try your hand at droid building with LittleBits Droid Kits. Create simple circuits and programs with the Arduino by LittleBits. Use LittleBits to create music with the Korg synthesizer kit.

Electronics Take-Apart (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Spend some time taking apart old electronic items to see how they work. We’ll have computers and small appliances for you to dig into with our tools. For ages 9 and up.

Passports

Pick up a Science Alive Passport at the greeter table, then visit and get your passport stamped to enter a drawing for prizes.

Quiet Room

Need a break to let your brain (or phone) recharge after too much amazing science? Take a moment in our Quiet Room. Coloring and other quiet activities will be provided.
