The Council of Energy Research and Education Leaders (CEREL) of the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) is now ready to accept abstracts for talks at the 2ndNational Energy Education Summit, which will take place June 7, 2016 at American University in Washington DC.  The Summit will immediately precede the annual conference of the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS) http://aess.info  from June 8-11 at American University.  We encourage Summit participants to remain for the AESS conference.

The purpose of the Summit is to engage energy educators in all sectors, including K-12, higher education and public education in sharing best practices and developing partnerships, in order to expand the impact and effectiveness of energy education. The Summit will cover what we teach in energy education, how we teach it, how we can collaborate to teach it better, and how we can overcome critical challenges. The report and presentations from the inaugural Summit held in January 2015, available at www.EnergyEducationSummit.org , presents a vision for energy education in the US.

Submissions will be accepted in the following topic areas:

• K-12 Energy Education
• Introductory Energy Education: Energy 101 and General Education
• Pedagogy and Assessment of Student Learning
• Defining Sustainability in an Energy Context
• Connections between with Energy Education and Energy Practices on Campus and in Local Communities
• Diversity: Advancing Diversity in the Sustainable Energy Field
• Career Preparation, Employer Needs and Student Opportunities
• Undergraduate Degree Programs, Minors and Concentrations
• Courses and Programs at Two Year (Community) Colleges
• Graduate and Professional Energy Education
• Public Energy Education
• Energy Workforce Development.
• Energy Entrepreneurship
• Other Energy Education (specify)

The Summit will include up to 5 talks in each topic area, followed by a group discussion on a common vision, effective practices and next steps in topic area.

Those wishing to organize energy-oriented sessions, presentations and posters at the AESS meeting should submit their proposals through the AESS call.  If you interested in participating in a session on alternative energy technologies and their implementation—e.g. distributed energy, microgrids, the Smart Grid, addressing the federal Clean Power Plan., please contact   Dr. Laura Stroup, Saint Michael’s College, LStroup@smcvt.edu
